Christopher Alan Schmitz
Christopher Alan Schmitz (born December 27, 1972) is an American composer, music theorist, and educator whose work spans solo, chamber, jazz, and orchestral genres. Currently serving as Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Mercer University, Schmitz’s music has been performed internationally by ensembles such as the London Symphony Orchestra and the USAF Airmen of Note, in venues including Carnegie Hall and St. Luke’s Church in London. His compositions have earned him numerous accolades, including the Sammy Nestico Award, a MacDowell fellowship, and commissions from the Alabama Orchestra Association and Music Teachers National Association. His works are published by Alfred Music, Alias Press, C. Alan Publications, and Cherry Classics, with recordings available on Navona, Ravello, and Beauport Classical. In 2024, the Luxembourg-based music journal Pizzicato described Schmitz’s work as "powerful and meaningful," highlighting its expressive depth and structural clarity.
